Description
The Falconieri Palace, a work by one of the greatest masters of European Baroque, Francesco Borromini, stands at the beginning of Rome's patina street, Via Giulia. The building has been the property of the Hungarian state since 1927, the seat of the Hungarian Academy in Rome and the Pontifical Hungarian Institute, and a bastion of symbolic significance for Hungarian culture and Catholicism in the Eternal City. The Falconieri Palace is one of the most significant artistic monuments owned by Hungarians, but no independent volume has been published about it for the interested public until now. Antal Molnár, director of the Hungarian Academy in Rome, and Tamás Tóth, rector of the Pontifical Hungarian Institute, present the exciting history of the palace and its former residents, its valuable artistic relics, and the turbulent past of the Academy and the Institute, based on a summary of previous research, archival sources, and rich visual material.
