When I first talked to Miklós Radnóti about my work, he asked me two things. Firstly, why an dedication is interesting, and secondly, where I go in my research, how many recommendations I have managed to gather. I was proud of him: there were two hundred, two hundred dedications at the time, and Fanni Gyarmati started laughing out loud and saying, It can't be! Miklós did not sell so many books. Dedications as writer's handwriting have long been in the spotlight of literary history (and collector's) interest, as the recommendation written by the author is interesting as a tangible document of the happening of literary life, the gesture. However, the dedication also carries information: a biographical source from which the entire network of contacts emerges. Radnóti is one of the few who, in addition to the linguistic care of the term, has taken special care to communicate in the visible language. The handwriting is accurate and regular, its forms are beautiful, but they are free of all chicory and ostentation, they reflect the nature of their means of expression, wrote György Haiman, who created the typography of Steep Road.
