Description
The publication offers a variety of exercises of varying difficulty, not only vocabulary extension, but also transferring up-to-date theoretical knowledge and developing different areas of competence, to teach grammar knowledge to upper secondary and high school students. On the one hand, the workbook provides an insight into the world of traditional peasant culture, its work processes and tools, which are almost unknown to most young people today, its specific worldview, its leisure activities not marked by common vocabulary, food, and external and internal human qualities. On the other hand, it makes students more conscious of language users: it indirectly leads to the sociolinguistic, multi-normative approach emphasized in the National Core Curriculum, and thus cultivates a more accepting attitude. Among the diverse, playful tasks, many are aimed at deepening grammatical knowledge through adverbs, but also at developing vocabulary, comprehension and composing skills: where to design a menu of an “Hungarian” restaurant, or to improvise a story with the help of dices, where to interview a family or argue drafting the task. The final chapter offers a solution to reducing spelling errors of regional origin by encouraging students to self-reflect. At the end of the workbook you will find the solutions to the tasks, so it is suitable for both independent and school work. Andrea Parapatics is a lecturer at the University of Pannonia and a decade of public education experience as a Hungarian teacher at the János Batsányi High School in Tapolca.
